Code 403

Forbidden: the server understood the request but refuses to serve it.

In practice

When crawlers get a 403 that browsers do not, suspect a firewall, bot protection or rate limiting rule.

Verify with a Googlebot user agent from a verified IP before concluding the page is fine.

Why it matters

A 403 to a crawler removes the page from the index as surely as deleting it.

Because visitors see the page normally, the problem can run for months unnoticed.
