Embargo

Press embargo

An agreement that a story will not be published before an agreed time.

In practice

It gives several outlets time to prepare properly and lets a launch land everywhere at once instead of dribbling out.

Only offer one where the story justifies it, and confirm acceptance explicitly — an assumed embargo is not an embargo.

Why it matters

Used well it turns a single announcement into coordinated coverage; used carelessly it costs you the relationship.
