Title Tag

The HTML element that names a page, shown as the headline of a search result and in the browser tab.

In practice

Put the subject first and the brand last, and keep it under about 60 characters so the line is not cut mid-phrase.

One page, one promise. A title that lists three topics ranks well for none of them.

Why it matters

It remains one of the strongest on-page relevance signals and the single biggest influence on whether a result is clicked.

Templated titles across thousands of pages make the difference between a site that reads as organised and one that reads as generated.
