Internal linking

Internal linking

Links between your own pages, used to pass authority and signal topic relationships.

In practice

It is the cheapest ranking lever on a site that already has content: the pages exist, the authority exists, and nothing needs approval from anyone outside the team.

Link from strong pages to the ones that need help, with anchor text that describes the destination rather than "read more".

Why it matters

Internal links decide which of your pages the engine treats as the important one for a topic. Left to chance, that is usually the homepage.
